Brian Stone Club Family of the Year Award.
Not a day goes by without a member of the Stokes/Wells family being seen down at the Trinity Oval - home of Low Moor Holy Trinity Cricket Club, members of the Halifax Cricket League. The family, who live and breathe cricket, have been affiliated with the club for over 60 years.
Stuart Stokes has held many roles over the years, including 2nd XI captain and committee member, as well as his current role as the club's League Representative. No job is outside of Stuart’s arc and if he see’s it, he’ll get it done. Just some of the jobs he’s undertaken at the club include erecting the boundary fencing, painting the pavilion (inside and out), installing drainage solutions, scoring and umpiring.
With his wife, Marilyn, they have ensured the smooth running of behind-the-counter activities on all match days, whether senior or junior cricket, for decades.
Their son, Mark, has been an integral part of the 1st team since his teenage years some 20 years ago. Like Stuart, his roles have covered captaincy, committee member and social events co-ordinator. You name it, he’s done it!
Their daughter, Faye, and grandchildren, Ethan and Imogen, may go by her marital name of Wells, but their persona and aptitude is very much down to how the Stokes’ carry themselves at all times. Ethan has progressed from the U11s to U13s and will be ready for senior cricket either next year or the year after. He’s also the 1st XI scorer (after Faye finally passed the scoring responsibilities to her son). Imogen has recently stepped up from All Stars into the club's new U9s programme. Both have excelled, as all knew they would. Harvey Stokes, although younger than his cousins will no doubt, in time, be the next one to keep the Stokes flag flying at Low Moor CC.
The Stokes/Wells family have shown amazing dedication and commitment to Low Moor Holy Trinity Cricket Club. Well done to them on a very well-deserved award.
That concludes our OSCA Winners features for this year. Know someone deserving of one of these awards? Keep an eye out next summer for when the 2020 nominations open!
