Info on squad selection.
It's the beginning of trials season for all the boys who have worked so hard and taken part in the recent rounds of district matches and continue to do so. The next step will be selection to go to the county trials.
The selection process will be based on performances from the previous season, 2018 matches, winter training and the 2018 trial itself. Each team manager and coach has worked as best they can to compile various statistics and build a knowledge of the boys through invaluable advice from district managers and coaches, as well as through attending as many district matches as time has allowed.
Each trial will run along the same format, so that there is continuity throughout U11 to U15 selection. The U10s will have a different format for selection as they need to look at players not already in the system and will therefore play more trial matches before selection.
This year, selectors will pick 13 players for the A teams and 8 players who will form the basis of the Development squad, with no players pre-selected before the final trials.
So why the change from last year? Alongside the 8 squad players for the Development team, managers will be selecting 4-5 more players from the districts for each game, based on form at district, club and school, to offer more players a chance to showcase their talents. The system is designed to be more open than ever before, with opportunities for movement of both players in form and out of form.
County Age Group cricket is all about giving the boys a chance to shine and all of us at Yorkshire couldn't be more excited to see as many talented young players as possible do just that this year and we hope to see plenty with roses on their caps in years to come.
Good luck to all the upcoming trialists!
