Both the U13’s and U15’s Girls teams from Horizon Community College (HCC) qualified for the South Yorkshire Indoor Cricket Finals this year at Ponds Forge.
U15's
Horizon CC U15's were aiming to win the competition, and set off in the correct manner, smashing Aston (Rotherham) for 124/3 from their 8 overs. In response, Aston posted a score of 50/6 in their allocated 8 overs.
HCC won by 74 runs.
The girls second match is one that will live long in the memory of all HCC players and on looking staff and parents alike. HCC scored 112/3 in their 8 overs. Then Bowling and fielding performance was superb, bowling High Storrs all out for Zero in 2.3 overs!

The next game was straight on, this time against Handsworth (Sheffield) who only managed 5 runs for the loss of all 8 wickets. The HCC girls knocked off the 6 necessary runs in just 4 balls.
HCC won by 8 wickets.
This saw HCC finish top, with Aston in 2nd place. Another strong batting performance from the girls with a score of 101/1 in their required overs, In reply, Aston had learned from the earlier matches, and batted cautiously, but at the sacrifice of an ever increasing run rate, eventually finishing on 34/7.
HCC won by 67 runs.
HCC were crowned SOUTH YORKSHIRE CHAMPIONS, and will go on to represent their region in the Yorkshire finals to be played before Easter.
U13's
The U13’s first opponents were High Storrs (Sheffield). A strong bowling performance from HCC, limited High Storrs to 67/7 in their 8 overs. The HCC girls scored the required runs inside 4 Overs!
HCC won by 7 wickets.
Up next was a repeat of the Barnsley Cup final; Penistone Grammar School. HCC fielded first conceding 95 runs against PGS in their 8 overs. A very tight contest unfolded with runs being scored but wickets being taken with HCC eventually finishing on top winning with 4 balls to spare.
HCC won by 2 wickets.
The final match saw the two unbeaten teams face off; HCC and Winterhill (Rotherham). HCC batting first scoring 117/2. A nervy bowling performance followed, with many extras and wides conceded, allowing Winterhill to get far too close for comfort, eventually reaching 101 all out with the last ball.
HCC won by 16 runs.
This then meant HCC would play Winterhill again in the final, with the trophy and pride at stake. HCC bowling first this time conceding 108 in their overs, A nervy 25 minutes followed, but all girls played their part with the bat giving it their all. In the final over requiring a steep 21 to win, and despite a valiant effort, HCC fell short, just.
HCC lost by 4 runs.
HCC qualify for the Yorkshire Finals as runners up, and will compete before Easter.
