on overs bowled!
Rodley Cricket Club, who play in the Bradford Cricket League, are attempting to set a marathon cricket record on Saturday 13th August at their ground in Rodley, West Leeds (LS13 1RL).
After getting in touch with the Guinness Book of World Records, the Rodley Cricket team will make an attempt to set the record for the most overs bowled in an eight-hour period. To have a chance at breaking the Guinness World Record, they will have to deliver no less than 160 overs (960 deliveries) during that time, but are rising to the challenge.
The Guinness World Record attempt is the brainchild of Rodley Cricket Club Committee Member, Alex Riddell, who commented: “I’m fairly new to cricket, so I guess the idea came from left field. I approached the Guinness Book of World Records and spent time exploring what was possible and what wasn’t. Eventually one of my mad ideas got the green light and now all we have to do is go out and do it!”
Alex Riddell continued: “Until two years ago, we had no Junior teams. We’re now proud to have four and are really excited to give all 60 of our youngsters a chance to take part in something really fun and become World Record holders.”
Steve Bradbury, Chairman at Rodley Cricket Club, added: “When Alex first told us about his idea, we all thought he was a bit crazy! But all power to Alex for persevering and actually making it happen. When we got the go ahead, it seemed only right to make the attempt part of our annual Open Weekend which attracts over a thousand people every year. I really hope we do it!”
The Guinness World Record attempt will take place between 10am and 6pm on Saturday 13th August during The Rodley Cricket Club Open Weekend. Fun for all the family, the event will also have bouncy castles, children’s rides, fun cricket games, food stalls, real ale bars and much more. On Sunday 14th, the club will host the infamous ‘Scruffs Dog Show’ which last year attracted over 100 entries.
