- unveiled!
The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation this week announced the launch of the new Yorkshire Cricket College, starting in September 2017, in partnership with education provider SCL. The college will enrol 18 students from across the county aged from 16 years old on a 2-year course combined with cricket training and matches built into the timetable.
Located at Headingley Stadium, home of Yorkshire CCC, students will benefit from the world class training facilities under the tutelage of Yorkshire Cricket coaches while studying for a BTEC level 3 in Sport.
“We want to create a really good college – somewhere that’s a great place to be educated, and a really good teaching environment, the bonus is that cricket is built into the timetable 3 times per week! Whether you’re looking to become a very serious cricketer or a keen club cricketer, the Yorkshire Cricket College will help students realise their potential, whilst studying”
Nick Robinson, Yorkshire Cricket Foundation
The curriculum offers a diverse range of modules such as the Principles of Anatomy and Physiology in Sport, leading to a BTEC level 3. The qualification will give graduates a spring board into their future and the opportunity to progress to further education, apprenticeships or a career. The cricket coaching and matches will allow the students to work on all aspects of their game and, whilst the holistic benefits that sport can offer such as development of communication, team work and self-confidence will supplement their training and education.
“At SCL we find that combining education with sport and delivering programmes from inspiring sports facilities has a real power for engaging young people. We are delighted to be launching a Cricket College with Yorkshire and look forward to making it a first-class experience for all our learners.”
Steve Franks, SCL
