New courses to begin in the new year.
We are currently in the process of arranging Safe Hands courses throughout Yorkshire so please keep an eye on the website over the coming weeks as we will be releasing details on the course locations and how to book.
All cricket clubs have an obligation to appoint a Club Welfare Officer, irrespective as to whether or not they have a junior section at their club. These officers have a remit to provide advice on Safeguarding issues and to ensure that the club adheres to all aspects of Safeguarding. The Club Welfare Officer should attend a ‘Safeguarding and Protecting Children’ workshop accredited by Sportscoach UK and the ECB Safe Hands Workshop.
Workshops in Yorkshire are run by Ray Knowles, YCB County Welfare Officer. The workshops are run on evening at locations across the County, between January and March each year, in response to levels of need identified by leagues. In 2017, for example, 2 workshops were held for the York & District Senior League in different locations to accommodate the geography and size of the league.
Under the current system, participants book places on workshops via the nominated league co-ordinator for each workshop. This individual co-ordinates the bookings, receipt of payment from the individuals and liaises with Ray Knowles on numbers & names of attendees. On completion of the course the YCB invoices the league to cover the costs of the course materials and other costs. The league requesting the course also secure a suitable venue for the workshop, typically a local cricket club with suitable facilities.
A new booking system will soon be in place. This will be a fully on-line process whereby the club attendee reserves and pays for their place on the course staged for clubs in their league. The system is the ECB Cvent booking system now being used for all ECB education programmes (Coach Ed, Officials, etc). Access to the booking process will be via a link provided by email and website (league & YCB) which the YCB can track bookings made as well as capturing those who attend future courses. The new on-line booking system will ensure all income for courses will be made direct to the YCB, taking out the requirement for YCB finance to invoice leagues.
