Yorkshire U14 Development vs Lancashire U14B, held at Clitheroe CC on Thursday 19th July 2018.
There was nothing to separate Yorkshire and Lancashire at Clitheroe on Thursday, following a 14-run win for each team across the two T20 games!
Game 1:
Lancashire 160-7 beat Yorkshire 146-5 (Sam Mindham 56*, Jasper Male 54*) by 14 runs.
Lancashire won the toss and elected to bat first in the opening fixture. The home side got off to a flying start, racing to 40 within the first five overs, before Muhammed Abbas (2-16) removed both of the openers in his first over. The Yorkshire bowlers continued to chip away, but a failure to control the extras (32 in total) let Lancashire get up to 160-7. In reply, Yorkshire got off to a terrible start, with all of the top five falling in the power-play, leaving Yorkshire looking forlorn on 30-5. The visitors were looking down and out before Sam Mindham (56*) and Jasper Male (54*) resurrected the chase with a brilliant, battling 116-run partnership - which could have easily won the game were it not for some excellent tight bowling from the Lancashire death bowlers. A promising comeback but plenty to work on in the second game.

Game 2:
Yorkshire 151-6 (Kshitij Kapote 36, James Blackburn 29, Sam Meadows 26) beat Lancashire 137-7 (Mansoor Shinwari 3-31) by 14 runs.
Upon winning the toss, Yorkshire captain Harry Dawson had no hesitation to bat in the second game of the day. Yorkshire got off to a much better start this time, with Sam Meadows (26) scoring quickly in the face of a good attack, whilst James Blackburn (29) played resiliently at the other end. After the fall of three quick wickets, leaving Yorkshire at 55-3, Kshitij Kapote took up the fight with a quick-fire, innovative 36. Some late hitting from Mindham and Male saw Yorkshire to 151-6 at the half way stage. In the second innings, Yorkshire looked much improved with the ball as Mansoor Shinwari (3-31) ripped through the Lancashire top order. All the Yorkshire bowlers kept things tight as Lancashire fell behind the rate. The pressure, combined with sharp fielding from the Yorkshire outfit caused three run outs as the hosts attempted to regain the initiative. Lancashire opener R Zore batted well for his 61, but his wicket in the closing overs signaled the end as Lancashire fell 14 runs short of victory. A much improved performance with plenty of encouraging signs to take into next week's 50 over games on the road in Staffordshire and Warwickshire.
