Match reports.
With England playing New Zealand at Lords in the World Cup Final, Yorkshire and England's next generation of cricketers took on the best from Warwickshire at Beverley Town CC.
Yorkshire Phoenix U10s faced the strong Warwickshire Bears and Cubs U10s teams in two T20 games.
Yorkshire Phoenix 87-5 beat Warwickshire Cubs 74-8 (Noah Sanders 4-15) by 13 runs.
Jack Winterbottom (17) and Thomas Rook (17) opened up with a partnership of 37, laying a solid foundation for a decent score. At half way, Yorkshire were 43-1, looking at a score of over 100. However, some accurate bowling pinned the scoring rate back. Some good running between the wickets and a useful innings from Noah Saunders (17*) meant Yorkshire Phoenix ended on 87-5.
With a large, slow outfield, the score was always going to be a challenge for the Warwickshire Cubs team. Luke Wilson, on debut, bowled four economical overs at the start. All the other seamers contributed to a good bowling display. The introduction of Saunders resulted in the demise of four Warwickshire batsmen as he finished with 4-15 in four overs. Warwickshire finished 13 runs adrift.

Warwickshire Bears 93-8 beat Yorkshire Phoenix 92-8 (Thomas Rook 31, Oliver Marsh 30) by 1 run.
In the second game, Yorkshire Phoenix faced Warwickshire Bears. Batting first, the Bears looked more confident against some wayward Phoenix bowling. Luke Wilson, who was the pick of the Phoenix attack, made an early breakthrough before the Warwickshire batsmen put the Phoenix bowling to the sword, combined with some excellent running between the wickets. At the half way stage The Bears were 65-2. An inspired talk from Coach Grant White, resulted in a much improved bowling and fielding display in the second half, with Warwickshire only scoring another 28 runs, ending on 93-8 in their 20 overs.
In reply, The Phoenix got off to a disastrous start, losing four quick wickets. Oliver Marsh (30) and Thomas Rook (33) rebuilt the innings but were always up against the rate. Three runs were required off the final ball but Barnes Walker was run out going for a second. Warwickshire winners by 1 run.
