Match report.
Yorkshire U13A vs Durham U13, held at Driffield Town CC on Thursday 12th July 2018.
Durham 182-6 beat Yorkshire 181-7 (Lachlan Doidge 37, Alex Cree 33, Elias Smith 29) by 4 wickets.
Yorkshire U13s took their home fixture against Durham U13s to the east of the county to play at Yorkshire League North ground, Driffield Town CC.
Yorkshire batted first on a good looking track that offered some pace and bounce throughout. Matthew Hood (12) and Alex Cree (33) got Yorkshire off to a good start. However, the innings stuttered, especially after the introduction of spin, with the new batsmen failing to rotate the strike and add any momentum to the innings. Some late order scoring from Elias Smith (29) and Lachlan Doidge (37) allowed Yorkshire to get to 181-7 in their 45 overs. Around 30-40 runs short of a decent score on a good batting track and fast outfield.
In reply, Yorkshire struck immediately, with George Crowther and Leo Diffey each making a breakthrough. After eight overs, Durham were left on 13-2. However, the game changed with a 96 run partnership between Ben McKinney (37) and Mitchell Killeen (65). Despite a fantastic catch to dismiss Killeen by Sam Spenceley, Durham were always ahead of the run-rate and completed victory with four wickets to spare and just under five overs left.
Again, plenty of lessons to be learnt in all departments of the game - especially in the field.
Many thanks to Driffield Town CC for hosting the game.
Monday sees Yorkshire U13s travel to Burnley CC to play Lancashire U13s in the next game of their Northern Counties Cup campaign.
