Match report.
Yorkshire U15 vs Lancashire U15, held at Sheriff Hutton Bridge CC on Sunday 17th June.
Yorkshire 232-4 (Will Luxton 99, Hector Bowerman 53, Yash Vagadia 47) beat Lancashire 175 all out (Yash Vagadia 5-33, Louis Beckett 3-40) by 57 runs.
Yorkshire captain Cooper Smith won the toss and elected to bat on a superb batting wicket. Will Luxton and Hector Bowerman (53) posted 125 for the first wicket before Bowerman swept round the corner and was well caught. Yash Vagadia joined Luxton and the two batsmen put on 80 in even time before Vagadia (47) was superbly held on the boundary. Luxton couldn’t quite reach his ton and was bowled for an elegant 99. With late hitting from Leo Johnson, Yorkshire posted a competitive 232-4 in their 50 overs.
Lancashire came out firing and, with an indifferent opening spell from the Yorkshire bowlers, they raced away to 45 off the first six overs. Matthew Bird came on to bowl a tight spell and Ben Stokes bowled with good control; however, the score had moved on to 132-1 before Yash Vagadia made the breakthrough. Louis Beckett came on at the other end and they put the squeeze on Lancashire. With some real pressure being applied, Lancashire collapsed to 175 all out, which included a brilliant run out from Dan Ford. Vagadia (5-33 in 10) and Beckett (3-40 in 9.4) deserve real credit, as do all the players, for responding to a real pressure situation and finding all the answers.
