Match report.
Yorkshire U14A v Cumbria U14, held at Giggleswick School on Tuesday 26th June 2018.
Yorkshire 123-1 (Rhys Ditta 68*, Matthew Weston 26*) beat Cumbria 121 all out (Noah Priestley 4-22, Clarke Doughney 3-22) by 9 wickets.
The third stop of the U14A season saw them host Cumbria at the picturesque Giggleswick School on a scorching hot summers day. With the squad looking to push on to make it three wins out of three in the ECB Royal London Cup competition, skipper Matthew Weston lost the toss and saw Cumbria choose to bat first on what looked to be a belting batting wicket. Cumbria's openers saw off some tight early bowling once again from Alex Midgley and Max Didgiunaitis before the introduction of Clarke Doughney (9-4-22-3) and Noah Priestley (7-2-22-4) for their first spells, which included regular breakthroughs. Some excellent fielding and tight bowling from George Horbury (6-2-16-1), Jack Young (7-2-17-1) and Matthew Weston (4-1-18-1) reduced Cumbria to 92-8, before the reintroduction of Doughney and Priestley wrapped up the Cumbria innings for 121.
With the sun continuing to bake down on the ground, Yorkshire openers Matthew Weston (26*) and Harry Allinson (10) set about chasing the required total. After a tight start from the Cumbria openers, a flurry of boundaries got the innings underway, before Allinson mistimed a drive to short cover. This brought Rhys Ditta (68*) to the crease, who was determined to make up for his last outing. After a cautious start, Ditta took the attack to the Cumbria bowlers, hitting 11 fours and 1 six in his innings, ably supported by Weston, who rotated the strike well to keep the scoreboard ticking along as Yorkshire knocked off the total within 20 overs. All in all an extremely professional victory from the Yorkshire side.
