Title defence begins with a 9-wicket win vs Cumbria.
Yorkshire CCC 50+ began their defence of the ECB National 50+ Championship with an away fixture against Cumbria 50+ at Kirby Stephen CC on a fine, sunny, but bitterly cold day.
Cumbria batted first and made an inauspicious start, at 18 for 4 in the first 7 overs, with opening bowlers Mark "Jockey" Wilson (3-15) and stalwart Rob Keywood (1-3) doing the damage. Cumbria made a patient recovery through Etchells (33), Mckeown (26) and Storey (33) interspersed with some hefty blows before captain Steve Wales (2-18) and Haider Jahangir restored Yorkshire's grip, which in truth, despite a stand of 47 for the 5th wicket, had never truly been loosened. The innings subsided to 151- 8, leaving the visitors a target of 152 to win.
Yorkshire roared to victory in 17 overs for the loss of just one wicket, with openers Kevin Bradley (66), Nick Gaywood (66*) and Jahingir (7*) securing the victory.
The next match is scheduled for Wednesday 23rd May, 1:00pm start, v Cheshire 50+ at Pudsey Congs CC.
