Match Report
Yorkshire CCC 50+ reached the Final of the ECB 50+ Championship by defeating Essex CCC 50+ by 83 runs at Streethouse CC last Sunday.
Winning the toss and electing to field, the home side made a slow but steady start after losing their charismatic opener Kevin Bradley for 10 in the third over. Nick Gaywood (57) and Barba Butt (74) consolidated Yorkshire’s position with a stand of 101 in a steadily accelerating fashion before Gaywood was run out leaving Butt and Foster (67no) to continue the rising tempo of the innings until Butt fell with the score on 195.
The crowd were then treated to a show of big hitting by Mo Shahnawaz (40) including 4x6s and 2x4s off 14 balls driving the final total to 259 and a mountain to climb for the visitors.
Essex were always behind the clock as wickets fell regularly to some tight bowling and splendid fielding and despite some resistance from Dakin (34) and Smith (33no) Essex ran out of overs closing on 176/9 and leaving Yorkshire to contest their 3rd Final in 4 years at Knibworth CC in Leicestershire against Lancashire next Sunday 9th September 11:00am start.
