Last Wednesday, an unbeaten Yorkshire 50+ entertained an unbeaten Lancashire 50+ in the top match in Group 1, at Streethouse CC.
Yorkshire lost the toss and were asked to bat first on what seemed like a good batting surface. They made a great start, with an opening partnership of 96 between Bradley and Gaywood, before two wickets fell in one over to Meyer; Bradley caught at the wicket for 63 and Jahangir trapped LBW by Meyer for an uncharacteristic duck. Steve Foster then helped Gaywood steady the ship before departing for 27, with Yorkshire at 153. Gaywood anchored the innings to 198 before being bowled by Howard for 71. Langley moved to 30 before being bowled by Deakin and other useful knocks of 19 each from Wolfenden and Burden enabled the home side to close on 257/9.
The visitors then set off in pursuit, but failed to maintain the required run rate, despite a forceful 40 from opener, Snelgrove. Wickets fell at regular intervals, with Yorkshire bowling a tight line - none more so than Foster (2-18 off his allocated 9 overs). However, the star of the show, Mohammed Shahnawaz, on debut, finished with 5-38 and epitomised the positive attitude and teamwork of this Yorkshire side, as the visitors' innings closed on 125 all out - Yorkshire winning by 132 runs.
The next match is Wednesday July 4th, away to Durham 50+ at Darlington CC, 1:00pm start.
