The Yorkshire County Cricket Club in conjunction with the Yorkshire Cricket Board (YCB) and the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation have launched the Yorkshire Cricket Floods Taskforce that will work with the region’s cricket clubs’ badly affected by the recent floods.
The Taskforce, which includes representatives from the ECB will be spearheaded by Yorkshire Captain Andrew Gale, Chief Executive Mark Arthur and former Yorkshire player Neil Hartley. The working party will support the work of the ECB on a case-by-case basis to ensure clubs are fully supported when making an insurance claim, raising necessary funds and to help volunteers overcome the pressures of getting their facilities ready for the new season.
Furthermore, a floods appeal to raise further funds has been set-up and the public can donate by visiting the Yorkshire Cricket Flood Appeal
“It has been a traumatic time for those communities affected by the recent floods that have shocked the region,” said Andrew Watson, Yorkshire Cricket Board’s Executive Director.
“In all, 19 clubs across the county have expressed support and all these clubs have been contacted. They will need a substantial amount of work and resource to get them in any position to host any cricket this summer. We will work hard to ensure we provide them with the necessary backing, both financially and through the taskforce, to make a difference.
“Andrew Gale and Mark Arthur have donated a £100 each to get the fundraising started and we have had substantial pledges of support from the professional players at the Club.
“We hope that we can encourage Yorkshire Cricket supporters across the country and beyond to dig deep and donate what they can to help these community clubs’ in their hour of need.”
To donate, please visit Just Giving Flood Appeal or send a cheque made payable to Yorkshire Cricket Foundation and send to the Yorkshire Cricket Floods Appeal, Yorkshire Cricket Board, Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds, LS6 3DP.
