Softball Event -
On Sunday 21st June we held the annual Yorkshire Lady Taverners U11 & U13 softball event at Elland Cricket Club. We reached the highest number of entries so far in the competition with 5 Under 11 Teams & 4 Under 13 Teams. Teams from North Stainley CC, Woodlands CC, Sheffield Transport, Holme Valley Girls, Bolton Percy, Yapham & Rotherham Town CC entered the tournament and had a fantastic day despite some showers and cold winds.
The U11 tournament was ran by Community Coach Dean Smith who said “these days are absolutely brilliant, 90+ girls playing cricket on the outfield in a competitive but also friendly environment. It has been an absolute pleasure running the U11 competition, the clubs, parents and players all just came to have fun, and they did”. The Winners of the U11 tournament were Woodlands CC who defeated Holme Valley Girls in the final, being remained undefeated all day.
The U13 tournament was run by Cricket Development Manager, Joe Ashdown who also leads on Women & Girls development county wide. The tournament was won by Woodlands CC who overcame North Stainley in the final. “This year’s competition has been brilliant, we had the Rotherham Town girls who played their first of many competitive games for the club. The format of this festival makes it inclusive for all, competitive and also enjoyable”.
A huge thanks to Elland Cricket Club & also all the clubs who supported the event - Girls Cricket is on the Up !
