Victorious again -
Yorkshire staged the penultimate match in their Group against Cumbria 50+ at the picturesque Studley Royal CC near Ripon on the hottest day of the year so far.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first Cumbria got off to a slow and difficult start losing their first 4 wickets for 12 runs against a determined attack exhibiting no weaknesses. With 15 overs completed the game was halted by one of the most spectacular storms seen for many years - lightening deafening thunder and torrential rain interspersed with hailstones!
However within 15 minutes it was over and with the sun returning the players took the field again an hour later in a match now reduced to 36 overs. Cumbria rallied somewhat with a 44 stand between Hodgson (30) and Littleton (25) but with both dismissed the tail was soon wrapped up - Kevin Watson (Brook Walton) 3/1 off 1.4 oversand Steve Wales (North Leeds) 2/16 off 8overs. Previously tight bowling from Mark Wilson (Wath) 3/13, Rob Keywood (Warley) 1/24 and Ian Doyle (Liversedge) 1/24 off 8overs stifled the top order and helped restrict the visitors to 85 all out in 31.4 overs.
In reply the hosts eased to a 10 wicket win off 18.3 overs , the openers undefeated with Kevin Bradley (Clifton)on 53* and Richard Sykes (Acomb) 23*
