Sunday 23rd June 2019 - Yorkshire U10 Tykes 192-7 beat Nottinghamshire U10 51 all out.
Nottinghamshire won the toss and invited Yorkshire to bat on a pitch that offered a bit of help towards the bowlers. Will Grainger and Alex Strain opened the batting and made a solid start, brining the Tykes to 50 in 10 overs. As the score moved along, Notts made thier breakthrough with the run out of Grainger for 24 by Ben Tonks. Shortly afterwards Strain was bowled by Krishan for 43. Despite the efforts of the Notts bowlers to try peg back the Tykes, more runs were add by Enzo Campagna (32), Dylan Oeppen (31) and Albie Smith (10*) which moved the score on to an impressive 192-7 off the 40 overs. Notts main wicket takers were spin bowlers Mitir Patel 4-17 and Rishab Krishna 2-19.
In reply, Notts opened their batting with Jamie Barr & Thomas Pritchard; who would face the Tykes opening bowling partnership of Theo McLelland and Ryan Thompson. McLelland took the first over, which went for 7 runs, and Thompson the second over, for 1 run. McLelland's 2nd over was the start of a very impressive spell of bowling by the youngster, as he clean bowled Jamie Barr (6), Yatharth Naik (0), Oscar Butcher (0) all in the same over. In his 3rd over, McLelland produced 2 more wickets to give him 5 wickets, all bowled, for 11 runs in 3 overs. This had severely damaged the Notts reply. Notts fought back with Rishab Krishan (15), Joshua Bradbury (7) and Celb Reed (son of Notts player Chris Reed) (8*) giving them some hope. The Tykes decided to turn to the spin of Umar Hewitt (who was very impressive with 3-2-4-3) and Louie Wilson (1-7), followed by the seam bowling of Matthew Hands (1- 14), which finished off the Notts reply with them being bowled out for 51. Very impressive fielding supported by Strain and Oeppen behind the stumps gave Tykes an a superb start to the season.
Friday 5th July 2019 - Lancashire U10 108-1 beat Yorkshire U10 Tykes 107 all out.
In the first encounter of the season between Yorkshire U10s & Lancashire U10s, the Tykes won the toss and elected to bat on what looked a good pitch to do so. The Tykes opening pair of Alex Strain and Will Grainger started against Sandy McEwan and Harry Moran and used the pace on the ball to move the score to 22 off 7 overs, with Grainger (9) being the first wicket to fall; bowled by Moran (1-19). That brought Oscar Firth to the crease - who took the fight to the Lancastrians. He and Strain took the score onto 63 until Firth (22) was caught by Aveen Dalugoda off the bowling of Thomas Prescott. Wickets fell quite quickly without troubling the scoreboard too much. Oeppen (4) Wilson (4) Oaten (0) Giannini (0) all fell until Strain (38) and Albie Smith (18) moved the score onto 104. The last pair at the wicket, Ryan Thompson and Umar Hewitt, had the task of trying to add more runs to Tykes total but with Shivy Gautam bowling superbly he eventually took the last wicket of Thompson (2) to end the Tykes innings on 107 off 31 overs. Lancashire used 6 bowlers in total with the best being Shivy Gautam (6-1-19-4).
In reply, Lancashire opened the batting with Thomas Prescott and Aveen Dalugoda against the Tykes opening attack of Theo McLelland and Matthew Hands. After 9 overs, with the score on 19, Yorkshire decided to introduce leg spin into the attack with Uymar Hewitt and Louie Wilson. Despite bowling well in tandem, Lancashire brought up their 50 in 14 overs. Drinks were taken and with that came about a breakthrough, with Wilson bowling Dalugoda for 18 with the score on 56. This brought to the crease Luke Hands and he and Prescott carried on the momentum, with Prescott 56 not out of 71 balls and Hands 27 not out off 33 balls - reaching the target score at 108-1 off 24.4 overs. Despite 7 bowlers being used by the Tykes, the batsman played extremely well. All in all, a good contest between the two teams, played in excellent spirit. Thanks go to Beverley Town Cricket Club for hosting the game and their very kind hospitality.
