Match report.
Yorkshire U11 Development vs Cleveland U11, held at Marske CC on Monday 18th June 2018.
Yorkshire 162 all out (Sam McBride 37, Matthew Firbank 32, Jamie Redgewick 26) beat Cleveland (Ethan Roberts 4-4) by 103 runs.
The Under 11 Development side got their season off to a winning start against Cleveland, but it wasn’t without an initial hiccup. After winning the toss and electing to bat on a wicket that looked a good batting track, they were soon in trouble. Some loose shots and decent bowling had Yorkshire at a precarious 23-5. But, a 60 run partnership between Matty Firbank (32) and Sam McBride (37) steadied the ship before Jamie Redgewick (26) knocked the ball around well, allowing the tail to land a few blows to help finish on 162 all out.
The defence of the score started in good fashion. Tight opening spells from Mathew Stewart and Lucas Slatter allowed Yorkshire’s first change bowlers to start working their way through the batting order. Harvey Laverack (2-19) and Ethan Roberts (4-4 off 7 overs) bowled fine spells, backed up by Jamie Redgewick as Cleveland were never allowed to get into the game. The fielding was of a good quality, with good intensity.
