Match report.
Yorkshire U11A vs Lancashire U11, held at Skipton CC on Sunday 8th July 2018.
Yorkshire 128-8 beat Lancashire 127-9 by 2 wickets.
Yorkshire once again lost the toss and were asked to bowl first in very hot conditions. Yorkshire’s opening bowling pair, Charlie Taylor and Bobby McFarlane, bowled with great control, restricting Lancashire to just 20 off the first 10 overs. Yorkshire's fielding has been impressive so far this summer as keeper, Joe Thompson, was again alert to a run out opportunity - removing his glove to throw down the stumps at the non-strikers end to claim Yorkshire’s first wicket. Lewis Ainley looked threatening; conceding just 2 runs off his 5 over spell. Diffey removed Flintoff with one that nipped back and, at the halfway stage, Lancashire were 60 for 2.
Spinners, Cross and Burch, continued to build pressure, with Burch taking 2-16. Yorkshire’s fielding took control of the game. Cross, with a superb dive and throw, picked up a run out, followed by a direct hit from Ainley and another from Charlie Taylor, as Yorkshire claimed a stunning four run outs. Leg spinner, Lewis Howard, kept the run-rate down along with Abbas (1-10). Opening bowler, Taylor, returned to pick up Yorkshire’s 9th wicket, finishing with 7 overs, 1-15, as Lancashire finished on 127-9 in their 40 overs.
New opening pair Burch and Smith showed great intent early on, rotating the strike with some well judged running, before Smith departed LBW at 21/1. Burch soon followed to a caught behind, giving Flintoff his 2nd wicket in his opening spell. Yorkshire kept losing wickets at regular intervals as Philipson showed great maturity to stick in there with a patient and battling 20. Skipper, Will Cross, stepped up with 24* as he built an important partnership with Ainley (16) and Diffey (17). Another wobble saw Yorkshire on 126 for 8 with 5 overs to go. 2 maidens kept the crowd on the edge of their seats before a scrambled single saw Yorkshire win a very hard fought game. Four wins out of four for them now, with two very challenging wins against Lancashire!
