Match report.
Yorkshire U12 Development vs Cumbria U12, held at Barton CC on Sunday 1st July 2018.
Yorkshire 161-7 (Noah Chapman 42, Joe Pyrah 34) beat Cumbria 139-5 by 22 runs.
Yorkshire triumphed in the second match of their 2018 campaign, recording a hard-fought victory over Cumbria.
On winning the toss, Noah Chapman elected to bat and the skipper combined with new opening partner Joe Pyrah to put on 74 in the first 20 overs. The stand eventually ended when Chapman was adjudged LBW for a well-made 42, including eight fours. Pyrah went on make 34 and, with useful contributions from Joshua Simmons (20) and Jacob Fordham (15), Yorkshire’s score progressed to 150. With the temperature touching 27c, the heat took its toll and the scoring rate slowed considerably. Extras made a telling contribution of 26 as Yorkshire edged their score to 161-7. Their cause was not aided by the combination of some missed singles and impressive death bowling by Cumbria.
In reply, Cumbria soon lost their first wicket, as Aayan Khokar, bowling with good pace and movement, had Ben Alison LBW. A stand of 45 followed before leg-spinner Oshi Munasinghe struck. Just seven runs later, Harry Edwards took a good catch off Aaron Patel’s off-spin to put Yorkshire in control. Cumbria were feeling the heat as their required rate climbed to over eight an over. Seth Winter - batting at number four - had other ideas, however, as he plundered 36 off 30 balls. It took a direct hit from skipper Chapman to end his aggressive innings and Cumbria struggled thereafter as a pair of run outs, along with Aayan and Harvey Round returning to the attack, made scoring difficult. Cumbria closed on 139-5, leaving Yorkshire victorious by 22 runs.
