Match report.
Yorkshire U12 Development vs Durham U12s, held at Eppleton CC on Friday 22nd June 2018.
Yorkshire 195-8 (Billy Armistead 50, Noah Chapman 50) beat Durham 151-9 (Harry Edwards 3-21) by 44 runs.
Yorkshire Under 12 Development opened their 2018 campaign with a 44-run win over Durham.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Yorkshire made 195-8 from their 40 overs, thanks in large measure to a fabulous first-wicket stand. Skipper Noah Chapman and opening partner Billy Armistead overcame a few early scares to set about the Durham attack, the pair putting on 124. While both departed in the space of two runs for excellent half-centuries, the platform had been set for the visitors to post a competitive total. Joe Pyrah and Jacob Fordham advanced the score beyond 150 before the latter was given run out for 17. Joe went on to make 21, but a final flourish from Josh Simmons and Harvey Round – who contributed 16 and 12 respectively – helped Yorkshire’s cause in the closing overs.
Durham started positively in reply, with their openers sharing a 40-run stand, before Archie Barraclough claimed the first of his two wickets to end the alliance. Harry Edwards claimed 3-21 from his six overs to put the skids on the home side’s victory hopes, with his first wicket coming courtesy of a smart piece of glovework by wicketkeeper Fordham behind the stumps. Harvey Round and Freddie Chapman returned to the attack and took a wicket apiece, while some excellent fielding – which included two run-outs - saw Durham fall comfortably short.
