Yorkshire U13A vs Warwickshire U13, in 2 x T20s held at Wakefield Thornes CC on Sunday 8th July 2018.
Game 1: Yorkshire 131-3 (Alex Cree 75, Leo Diffey 26, Lachlan Doidge 25) beat Warwickshire 72-8 (Lachlan Doidge 3-10) by 59 runs.
Yorkshire won the toss and elected to bat in the first of two Twenty20 games against Warwickshire U13 at the home of Yorkshire League South Champions, Wakefield Thornes CC.
Alex Cree and Leo Diffey got the innings off to a steady start before both batsman moved up a gear. At the end of the first powerplay (6 overs), the score was 33 without loss. Diffey fell for 26, however, captain, Lachlan Doidge joined Cree in a partnership of 74. Good running between the wickets and rotation of the strike combined with some powerful, controlled hitting took the score to 125, before Doidge fell for 25. Cree, unselfishly trying to hit the last ball into another universe, fell for a mature 75, leaving Yorkshire on an above par 131-3.
In reply, Warwickshire never really threatened, as a much improved bowling and fielding performance restricted the opposition to 72-8 in their 20 overs. All the bowlers had elements of success. Charlie McMurran (promoted from the Development team) bowled his four overs for a miserly 2 runs, taking 2 wickets, while Caleb Bradford took 1-13 and Doidge 3-10. The other wicket taker being Matthew Simms with 1-7 in his four overs.

Game 2: Yorkshire 77-1 (Isaac Light 38*, Matthew Hood 30) beat Warwickshire 77-5 by 9 wickets.
In the second game, Warwickshire batted first, but found runs equally difficult to score on a wicket that was getting slower and lower. Again, the bowlers bowled with accuracy. Caleb Bradford picking up 1-15, Lachlan Doidge 2-17 and Matthew Simms 2-4.
In reply, and after setting a challenge of knocking off the runs in 14 overs, the new opening partnership of Matthew Hood and Isaac Light found the going just as tough as the Warwickshire batsmen had. However, the two openers showed maturity; opening with a stand of 48, before Hood was undone by a googly and bowled for 30. With 17 required off the last three overs, Light took the attack to the bowlers and finished unbeaten on 38*. Sam Spenceley hit the winning boundary to take Yorkshire to victory with 9 balls left.
