Yorkshire U13A vs Leicestershire U13, held at Pudsey Congs CC on Thursday 21st June 2018.
Yorkshire 217-7 (Matthew Hood 56, Elias Smith 52, Alex Cree 27, Leo Diffey 25*) beat Leicestershire 109 all out (Lachlan Doidge 3-3, Leo Diffey 3-16) by 108 runs.
Yorkshire U13A played their first game of the Northern Counties Cup against Leicestershire U13 at Pudsey Congs CC on Thursday.
Batting first, Yorkshire lost opener Sam Spenceley (0) early on, before Alex Wood (16) and Alex Cree (27) repaired the early damage. However, with the score on 32, Wood was dismissed, closely followed by Zak Jahangir (1), leaving the score on a precarious 36-3. Isaac Light (0) soon followed. The situation required someone to put their hand up. Cree and Matthew Hood took the score to 74, before the captain departed, leaving the game in the balance. However, for the second game running, Elias Smith (52) played a mature innings, supporting Hood (56) in a 79 run partnership. After Hood departed for his patient 56, Leo Diffey (25*) saw Yorkshire close on 217-6. A score which could have been a lot worse!
In the second innings, opening bowlers George Crowther (2-24) and Diffey (3-16) made early inroads to the Leicestershire top order. However, their opener Vaughan Schofield (53) put away any loose deliveries. Caleb Bradford bowled another containing speĺl, as did Smith. But, it was the introduction of Lachlan Doidge (3-3) along with some erratic running, that saw Leicestershire’s sudden demise, finishing on 109 ao in 32.1 overs.
A good win, but definite areas to work on in all areas of the game.
