Another win for Yorkshire Away at Cheshire.
On Sunday 23rd July Yorkshire U13A played their fourth ESCA Northern Counties Championship game away to Cheshire at Cheadle Hulme CC. Cheshire won the toss and put Yorkshire in hoping to capitalise on a sporty wicket and the ongoing threat of rain.
The Cheshire plan seemed to be working when Yorkshire found themselves 49-4 after 18 overs. However, Rhys Ditta and Noah Priestley then came together at the crease and took the score onto 121 before Rhys was out for 29 in the 36th over. Noah (39), George Horbury (19*), Harry Christy (10) and Jack Young (10) showed the team’s depth of batting to take the score on to 173-9 in 45 overs.
In reply, Cheshire started slowly with opening bowlers George Horbury and Joe Norbury bowling well but with no success. Harry Watkinson then came on as first change and took the wicket of Henry Carne with his fourth ball. Seb Botes, who had taken 4-29 in 5 overs in the Yorkshire innings, came to the crease next and showed everyone that he could bat as well as bowl. He helped to take the score on to 114-5 before he was out lbw to George Horbury for a lively 44. The 6th wicket fell in the following over to a very good run out by Rhys Ditta. Harry Watkinson then returned with the ball to take the next 3 wickets to end the game with superb figures of 4-17 from his 8.5 overs. Cheshire’s final wicket fell to another good run out, this time by Matthew Weston, leaving them on 154 all out and giving Yorkshire a win by 19 runs.
