Match report.
Yorkshire U14 Development vs Leicestershire U14, held at Lutterworth CC on Tuesday 19th June 2018.
Leicestershire 200-6 (Harry Dawson 2-26) beat Yorkshire 198 all out (Jack Oakley 47, James Blackburn 35, Sam Mindham 31) by 4 wickets.
Leicestershire's Rehan Ahmed was the star with both bat and ball as the hosts overcame Yorkshire's first innings total of 198.
Leicestershire won the toss and put Yorkshire into bat on a hard but green wicket which looked like it would have plenty in it for both sides. Yorkshire once again began well, with openers James Blackburn (35) and Kieran Donnachie (21) putting on 83 for the first wicket after some wayward bowling from the Leicestershire openers. Jack Brady (12), Sam Mindham (31) and Jack Oakley (47) continued to play well, but the introduction of the Leicestershire spinners made it increasingly difficult to score on the turning surface. Jack Oakley batted alongside the tail, as wickets fell quickly following Mindham's dismissal, before the Yorkshire number four was finally dismissed in the penultimate over to make it 198 all out at the half way stage.
In reply, Leicestershire got off to a good start, with the openers putting on 58 for the first wicket before a smart bit of work from young James Blackburn saw Leicestershires's dangerous opener Aryan Patel run out for 35. Around half way through the innings, Leicestershire found themselves in an identical position as Yorkshire had done; with 106 runs on the board as the third wicket fell. Harry Dawson picked up a couple of wickets, along with one each for Blackburn (1-23), Lewis Hogg (1-34) and George Booth (1-35) as wickets tumbled from one end, whilst Leicestershire number three Rehan Ahmed batted through. Ahmed would ultimately prove the difference, finishing the game with an exceptional 96* to see the hosts home for a four wicket win.
