Match report.
Yorkshire U14 225-7 dec (Cross 68, Hall 56, Phillipson 37) vs Leicestershire U14 19-0 - Match abandoned.
Sadly, Yorkshire U14's first competitive fixture of the 2021 season was thwarted by the weather on Sunday after a strong first innings against visitors Leicestershire.
After winning the toss and electing to bat to make the most of the good weather before the showers arrived, Yorkshire made good headway after the loss of an early wicket. Skipper Will Cross (68) and opener Archie Phillipson put on 107 for the second wicket, batting superbly and taking advantage of any available gaps in the field. Joe Hall (56) then took up where they had left off, batting through some showers and accelerating past 200, accompanied by some quick runs from the middle and lower order. Yorkshire ultimately declared on 225-7 after 44 overs, when another shower forced the teams off with just one over still to bowl.
Leicestershire were off to a positive start at 19-0 when the heavens opened and the ominous skies finally delivered what they had been threatening all day.
A shame not to get the second half in, but a positive day for the batsmen and a chance to learn plenty.
Huge thanks go to Ossett CC for hosting and looking after everyone so well, as well as Leicestershire for giving the lads a good game. Next up for the U14s, it's Durham tomorrow in the ECB Cup at Driffield Town CC.
