Match report.
Yorkshire U14A 247-8 (Isaac Coates 56, Sam Spenceley 51*, Noah Kelly 48, Alex Cree 34) lost to Cheshire U14 249-6 by 4 wickets.
The rearranged ECB fixture saw Yorkshire lose the toss and be asked to bat first on a used pitch. Openers Alex Cree (34) and Noah Kelly (48) built a solid opening partnership against some accurate Cheshire seam bowlers. The introduction of Cheshire's left arm spinner changed the flow of the game, removing both openers triggering a collapse of 44/7 in 11 overs. Sam Spenceley (51*) and Isaac Coates (56) put together an outstanding 99 run 7th wicket partnership, taking the attack to the Cheshire bowlers and propelling the score up to 247-8 after the allotted 50 overs - which looked like an above par score.
The Cheshire innings started with an early wicket from Elias Smith, getting Vaughan caught at square leg by Kelly. This brought the Cheshire skipper to the crease, who along with the other opener, started the reply in an aggressive nature, taking the attack to the Yorkshire bowlers and reaching 85-1 after 10 overs. The introduction of Caleb Bradford (10-2-36-2) and Will Chapman (1-42) began to bring some calm to proceedings. George Crowther was introduced to the attack and bowled with some real pace, creating movement with the old ball, giving Yorkshire a chance. However, the 42 wides bowled in the innings proved costly, with Cheshire reaching their target in 42.2 overs with 4 wickets remaining.
This leaves Yorkshire with the task of having to win their remaining 2 games to ensure qualification to the national competition next year. A big thank you to Bradford and Bingley CC, who stepped in at less than 24 hours notice to host the game when the original venue unfortunately was unfit following the weekend's rain.
