Match report.
Yorkshire U14A v Durham U14, held at York CC on Wednesday 8th August 2018.
Yorkshire 181-3 (Harry Allinson 88*, Harry Finch 25) Durham 180-9 (Matthew Weston 3-26, Noah Priestley 3-29) by 7 wickets.
The final fixture in this season's ECB County Cup saw Yorkshire host Durham at York Cricket Club. Matthew Weston lost the toss, which saw Durham elect to bat first on what looked to be a belting deck. Some outstanding new ball bowling from George Horbury (10-1-50-1) and Noah Priestley (10-3-29-3) beat the bat on numerous occasions, making some early breakthroughs before the introduction of spin twins Jack Young (7-0-19-1) and tournament leading wicket taker Clarke Doughney (8-2-25-0). For the first time this season they struggled to make breakthroughs with the Durham batsmen attempting to take the attack back to the Yorkshire bowlers. Skipper Weston (8-2-26-3) brought himself on and again made regular breakthroughs, pegging the Durham batting order back. A spirited knock from Durham's number 6 took the attack well and truly to Yorkshire with some towering sixes, before Priestley returned to remove the danger man as Durham finished their 50 overs on 180-9.
A challenging spell from the Durham seam bowlers saw Weston (13) and Rhys Ditta (10) back in the tent before Harry Finch (25) joined opener Harry Allinson (88*) who set about the task of rebuilding after taking advantage of some missed chances by the Durham fielders. Finch departed with just under 40 runs left, bringing George Barden (16*) to the crease for his A team debut to see the team home. The Under 14s finish the season unbeaten in the ECB County Cup with 7 wins out of 7. A great effort from the whole squad.
