The U14s have maintained their 100% record with strong performances against Derbyshire and Notts:
Derbyshire U14 v Yorkshire U14A
Coal Aston CC provided the setting for the teams 3rd ECB Cup Competition fixture with Derbyshire winning the toss and electing to field first. Yorkshire's opening pair of Romir Singh and Hector Bowerman added 50 before the fall of Singhs wicket (18) run out. Bowerman was joined by Leo Johnson (21) who helped take the score to short of 100 before he fell bowled by the legspin of Halem (2/23). Bowerman (48) followed shortly after just 2 runs short of a second 50. Yash Vagadia (56*) and Captain Cooper Smith (81) added 140 to take the total up to 297 from 50 overs.
Derbyshire started their innings off well, punishing the bad ball before Lowton (16) fell caught well by Bowerman at midwicket. This did not deter Derbyshire, with regular partnerships putting pressure on the Yorkshire fielders until the introduction of Gavin Whipp (2/62) whose leg spin provided the breakthrough with Burlisconi (40) and Chima (46) dismissed in the same over.Derbyshire continued their run chase, A Haleem (48) followed his bowling performance with a solid innings that put Derbyshire back on track and along with J McNeeney (59*) kept the run chase on to the last over when Derbyshire needed 21. The last over bowled by Cooper Smith (2/69) produced just 8 runs and a hard earned victory by 13 runs for the Yorkshire juniors.
YORKSHIRE U14 v NOTTINGHAM U14 at Elland CC
On a wicket that looked helpful to seam bowling, Notts won the toss and put Yorkshire in to bat. Yorkshires opening pair were hoping to continue on their recent run of form, however Bowerman (1) was the first to go with the score on 6. Singh was joined by Johnson who helped the score to 43 before he departed for 26. Singh was joined by Ford who instantly rotated the strike, taking the attack to the bowlers and pushing his partner with good running between the wickets. With the score on 135 Singh (59) departed and Stephenson was pushed up the order to continue the brisk pace set by Ford, who was to fall next with his score of 45 and the score 150. Vagadia (26) kept up Fords good work and rotated the strike well with the Captain, Cooper Smith. Smith yet again showed his value of batting at 5/6 with the opposition attack and fielders visibly wilting. His 68* runs setting a total of 256 for 6.
In reply Notts, who having had the heavy roller on the wicket, looked like they had read too much into an odd ball that misbehaved and started their reply with caution. Cliff (1/10) struck first with a steady fall of Notts wickets following until their innings closed on 148 all out. The Yorkshire bowling was regularly rotated with Vagadia having his first U14 spell, with his 2/30 return justifing his selection. Adlard finished with good figures of 4/15.
