to their 2017 campaign.
The new U14s side have enjoyed early success in their opening fixtures against Cumbria and Leicestershire.
Against Cumbria U14, Yorkshire lost the toss with Cumbria electing to bat first on a good looking wicket at Furness CC, Barrow. Wickets fell regularly and were shared amongst the bowlers, Jay Smith (3/29) being Yorkshire's most successful. Cumbria had Wilson, Bowman and McGown, to thank for most of their score of 161/8. After a poor start against some disciplined bowling, the Yorkshire innings recovered from 11/3, through a Leo Johnson and Yash Vagadia partnership. The Cumbria bowling was changed unsuccessfully as Yorkshire closed in on their target with Johnson first to 50 with a succession of boundaries.Vagadia also passed 50 and the target was passed in the 33 over with both batsmen unbeaten, Johnson 85 and Vagadia 56 posting an unbeaten partnership of 150.
Game 2 v Lincolnshire U14 at Hymers College, on Fathers Day and the weather was not typical Hull weather, with wall to wall sunshine all day. The toss was won by Yorkshire who elected to bat and the change in the team from the previous game saw Singh replaced by Adlard. The innings was opened with Dan Ford (23) and Hector Bowerman (59), Ford was first out, trying to run a three but losing his wicket to a good outfield throw. Johnson (4) and Vagadia (11) could not match their efforts of the previous game but Captain Cooper Smith (47), and wicket keeper Alex Kaye (26*) added valuable runs. Some late hitting from Josh Stephenson (19) and Louis Beckett (19)enabled Yorkshire to post 250 from their 50 overs. This target was always going to be challenging for Lincolns and the Yorkshire bowlers soon got into their strides with wickets falling regularly. Once again the opening bowlers were on target and Jay Smith 2/18, Ben Cliff 3/12 were followed up with spin from Ben Stokes 3/6 and seam Luis Adlard 1/11 to bowl their opponents out for 50.
Next up for the U14s is a visit to Derbyshire on the 25th June, Coal Aston CC is the venue, wickets pitched at 11am.
