Match report.
Yorkshire U15A v Chershire U15, held at Sheriff Hutton Bridge CC on Wednesday 1st August 2018.
Yorkshire 196-2 (Will Luxton 94*, Leo Johnson 48*, Romir Singh 40) beat Cheshire 192-7 by 8 wickets.
Yorkshire U15A played their final Royal London ECB County Cup game on 1st August at Sheriff Hutton Bridge.
Yorkshire lost the toss and, with a bit of moisture around, Cheshire surprisingly chose to bat. The three seamers, Matty Bird, Ben Cliff and Cooper Smith, all bowled tidily. Spinners, Louis Beckett and Ben Stokes, both took wickets and, despite an enterprising stand for the eighth wicket, Cheshire closed on 192-7 in their 50 overs.
This looked below par, with conditions for batting improving. After the early loss of Hector Bowerman, Romir Singh and Will Luxton compiled an impressive partnership of 80 before Romir was somewhat unluckily stumped down the leg side off the keepers pads. This brought Leo Johnson to the crease. Luxton's aggressive running and elegant strokes took the game to Cheshire and, after being set a target of 45 in seven overs to finish the game, they got there in four, with some fine striking from Luxton (finishing just short of his hundred) and Johnson (just short of 50). This team has shown that personal milestones mean little to them as they finished their campaign unbeaten in 50 over cricket!
They now have a quarter final to look forward against Shropshire at Scarborough on the 15th of August.
