Match report.
Yorkshire U15A qualified for the ECB Finals down at Kibworth CC on 21st and 22nd August with a hard-fought match v Warwickshire at Harborne CC. Gloucestershire will be Yorkshire's semi-final opponents with Lancashire v Surrey or Somerset contesting the second semi-final match.
Against Warwickshire, upon winning the toss, Yorkshire chose to bat on what was a good wicket with some small boundaries. Four run outs and some poor shot selection from early batsmen did not help matters. At 100–4, after 21 overs, Priestley and Finch with help from later batsmen rebuilt the innings and a final total of 243–9 was considered par, but by no means safe.
Horbury struck in the first over of the Warwickshire innings and the seam attack continued to raise the required run rate. With short boundaries straight, Warwickshire began to attack but at the end of the innings Horbury and Priestley varied their deliveries very well to win the match by 37 runs. 39 extras made the task somewhat harder and is an area to improve before the final(s).
This was a very good team effort with everyone contributing. Priestley’s score of 56 in a partnership of 83 with Finch proved vital. The outstanding figures from the bowlers were Horbury's 4– 38 and Priestley's 3–30.
