ECB CUP quarter final - Yorkshire U15A v Shropshire U15, held at Scarborough CC on Wednesday 15th August 2018.
Yorkshire U15A were victorious in their ECB Cup quarter final with a tense win over Shropshire at North Marine Road, Scarborough.
Yorkshire won the toss and batted first on a typically good Scarborough wicket. Will Luxton and Hector Bowerman got the team off to a rapid start, but Shropshire had two accurate left arm spinners who pegged back the run rate. Leo Johnson pushed the score on, but it was left to the captain Cooper Smith and Dan Ford to step on the gas, with a partnership of 71 in even time to set an imposing target of 272 for Shropshire to chase.
Yorkshire started well in the second innings, with seamers Bird, Cliff and Smith all bowling tight as Shropshire were reduced to 73-4. Yorkshire looked on course but Shropshire’s number 6 had other ideas as he took on Yorkshire’s spinners and trimmed the target to 96 off 17 overs. Smith came back on and produced the perfect yorker and had the other set batsman well taken at long on by Dan Ford. The target proved too much for the later batsmen as Bird and Cliff returned and Shropshire were all out, 33 short.
Yorkshire will now play Middlesex at Kibworth in Leicestershire on Wednesday for a place in the final.
