Father and son duo win Brian Stone Club Family of the Year Award 2017.
Mount offers a range of cricket opportunities, from coaching sessions for boys and girls throughout the year through to competitive junior teams at U13s, U15s and three senior teams within the Halifax Cricket League. The Club has established genuine cricket opportunities for South Asian girls and for children with disabilities, particularly Down Syndrome.
Behind this is a father and son partnership who are there sorting out registration, planning events (like the annual girls’ tournament with 10 local schools) to welcoming high profile guests like Shahid Afridi, Dickie Bird, Mark Arthur, Lord Patel of ECB and The Vatican’s St Peter’s XI, who visited Mount Cricket Club’s ‘Field of Dreams’ last September as part of the ‘Light of Faith Tour’.
The pair maintain all the equipment, provide a handyperson service, are first to arrive at the ground to welcome U9, U13, U15 and girls teams every Sunday morning for the seasons and in winter during the indoor practice sessions. They prepare teas, tidy up, sort out ground maintenance and liaise with Kirklees Council and four separate leagues – all within their remit.
The Club would simply not function nor survive without the tireless service of these two remarkable volunteers! Congratulations of a very well deserved award!
