DBS Update Service
As part improvements to the online DBS application process all volunteers and paid applicants are now automatically registered with the DBS Update Service. This will ensure that ECB will have the most up to date information regarding the roles people undertake in cricket.
Previously paid applicants, who could not give consent or confirm registration to the Update Service, now have access online via the ECB application portal. Applicants will have the ability to add their new DBS certificate to any existing DBS Update Service Account they hold.
All applicants’ DBS checks will now be reviewed every 12 months, provided they do not opt out of the update service. Clubs should advise their members that they will receive correspondence relating to their annual Update. This correspondence will be an email request for applicants to confirm their details to ensure ECB hold the most accurate information in relation to their role in cricket, their club they volunteer/work for and their contact details.
Applicants may choose to opt out of the Update Service (and deny the status check) in which case their DBS would be expire after 12 months of issue and potentially cancelled. They would no longer be eligible to hold a position involving regulated activity.
The process of the annual check
No new information is revealed and the certificate remains current- the applicant will be informed that their DBS has been renewed for another year, and their DBS record will be updated accordingly. e.g. renewal date moved ahead by 1 year.
New information is revealed - the applicant will be asked to make a new application to obtain an updated DBS certificate which they must to send to Lord’s for vetting.
No match found - a member of ECB staff will contact the individual to clarify this. It is likely that the applicant previously cancelled their update service subscription. In this case a new DBS application would be required to continue in regulated activity.
