Activators are the volunteers responsible for making All Stars and Dynamos cricket sessions fun, safe and inclusive for everybody involved. Activators bring the sessions to life, leading exciting cricket activities to engage young people and develop their love for the sport.
It’s not about technical skills or cricketing experience. Being an Activator is about having a passion for fun. To become a compliant Activator and be eligible to lead All Stars or Dynamos sessions, all you need is to:
- Undergo an ECB DBS check - this is free of charge as long as you’re an unpaid volunteer
- Complete a face-to-face Activator training session - these are held seasonally by the Yorkshire Cricket Board
- Complete two online modules created by the ECB – these are to keep you up to date with the latest safeguarding practices and teach you more about the All Stars and Dynamos ethos.
Upcoming Activator Training Sessions
At present, there are no upcoming Activator training sessions. Typically, these sessions are scheduled for early May, prior to the official All Stars and Dynamos seasonal launch.
FAQs
I’ve never played cricket before. How am I supposed to coach it?
All Stars and Dynamos isn’t about coaching cricket or technical development. It’s about developing a love for the game through exciting, cricket-based activities where children can pick up fundamental sports’ skills and begin to apply these in game-like scenarios.
How do I become an Activator?
If you’re already a member at a cricket club, you can speak with the relevant contact within the club – possibly an existing Activator or junior cricket lead/coach.
If you don’t have an existing club affiliation, please contact your local Club and Community Development Manager, who can help put you in contact with a nearby club where All Stars or Dynamos is taking place.
How old must I be to become a Dynamos Activator?
You must be at least 18 years old to lead a Dynamos session, though you are able to complete the pre-requisite components from aged 16 and up, including the DBS check. Please note that any Activators under the age of 18 will count as children when calculating adult-child ratios for your club programmes.
What does the face-to-face Activator training session involve?
The face-to-face session will include demonstrations of All Stars and Dynamos activities led by YCB staff, an overview of the framework used for adapting sessions to maximise enjoyment and safety, safeguarding discussions and a practical peer-to-peer delivery component where you will be tasked with leading your own All Stars or Dynamos activity.
Why are there no Activator training sessions at my nearest club?
Activator training sessions are typically held at venues where there is sufficient capacity, availability and high demand for new Activators. Often, several sessions are organised in each area of Yorkshire to try and minimise the distance attendees will need to travel.
