Maurice Young Award - Services to Coaching Young People.
Kevin Booth and Bruce Lunn have re-organised, re-energised and inspired the provision of junior cricket at Lightcliffe CC over the last 10 years. The club now has 10 junior sides, at all age groups, competing in three different leagues. They have driven a dedicated Friday night coaching programme, now attended by over 50 children, and have engaged parental support so that the sessions are inclusive.
Their coaching ethic and dedication sees them devote thousands of unpaid hours and the results are illustrated in an U13 side that reached the Yorkshire semi-final and also contains two Yorkshire County Age Group players and a further six that play representative cricket at regional or festival level. The two men are responsible for running Lightcliffe’s Sunday Section and are at the heart of developing young players and providing opportunity to take the first steps towards senior cricket.
They have shown vision by embracing the junior league’s loan scheme, understanding the age and stage approach, and this has allowed Lightcliffe youngsters to play Saturday cricket elsewhere, at the right level, to further their development. It is impossible to list the additional tasks undertaken. Suffice to say that, without their selflessness, energy, calm management, fairness and love of what they do, the Lightcliffe club and community would be a poorer place.
