Friday 23rd August 2019 - Yorkshire U12A vs Durham U13 - Sacriston CC - 45 overs
Durham 260-8 beat Yorkshire 184-6 by 76 runs
Durham won the toss and batted on a sunny but breezy day, on what looked a very good batting wicket. Durham got off to a quick start before Charlie Taylor managed to get the breakthrough. Runs continued to flow for Durham with Davis (45), Basu (71) and Hopkins (71) leading the way, helped by a couple of dropped catches in the outfield.
The main aim now was to keep Durham to an attainable total. Yorkshire continued to toil, led by Ed Burch (2-28) and Charlie Taylor(3-35), who came back in his second spell to take a couple of wickets. The Durham innings finished on 260-8 off their 45 overs - a very tall order for the Under 12 batsmen.
Yorkshire set out in a positive manner, in an attempt to overhaul Durham’s total. After an early setback, Will Bennison (33), Tom Fraine (23) and Owen Smith (31) played well and supported half century maker William Cross (54). The only issue was that all had a solid start, but none could achieve a match changing innings.
Hopkins (2-25) and Slaine (2-28) were Durham’s most successful bowlers as Yorkshire finished on 184 off their 45 overs. This was a commendable effort against an U13 county bowling attack, but ultimately Durham had scored too many runs in their innings.
