Sunday 15th September saw the Yorkshire Women & Girls County Finals take place, with the Hundred Hardball at Headingley, and Softball Finals at Weetwood.
As part of the Softball, eight teams made the journey to Leeds, including: Tickhill Tigers, Scholes Shenanigans, Sutton, Northallerton, Wickersely Vixens, Stainland, Welton and Wykeham. Unfortunately, the rain got the better of us and the pitch was unplayable, the Softball Finals have been rescheduled for 2025 as a curtain raiser for the season ahead. Many of the Softball Women however utilised the opportunity to visit Headingley where the Hundred Finals Day was taking place. The four Yorkshire Women Hardball League teams that made it to the final included: Sessay, Doncaster Town, Saxton and Sheffield Collegiate.
After a delayed start due to rain, and the grounds team working tirelessly, the semi-final game got underway - Sessay won the toss and elected to bat first against Sheffield Collegiate. After the first innings of 50 balls, Sessay finished on 152/2. In the second innings, Sheffield Collegiate fell short with 65/3, meaning Sessay moved through to the final. The second semi-final started with Doncaster batting first, however the game was cut short due to the weather and was therefore rescheduled.
The remaining semi-final, and final of the Hardball competition took place on Sunday 22nd September at Walton Park CC. In the rescheduled 50 ball semi-final, Doncaster were put in to bat first, setting a score of 45 to win from 50 balls. Saxton came out fighting and caught Doncasters 44 runs with 5 overs to spare meaning they moved through to the final against Sessay. In the Hundred ball final, Sessay won the toss and elected to bat first setting a competitive target of 137. Saxton fought throughout their innings but with Sessay restricting them to 102/AO the Yorkshire Womens Premier League Hundred Competition finale saw Sessay lift the trophy. Marshall Wooldridge, the league sponsors presented the trophies (attach picture) as everyone celebrated a fantastic weekend, or 2 of quality hardball women's cricket.
Thank you to Marshall Wooldridge, Title Sponsors, for enabling the day to take place (twice!), and the Yorkshire Womens Premier League for an excellent finals day. Congratulations to all involved, and to Sessay CC on becoming County Champions.
