Volunteer of the Year.
Since joining Bridgeholme Cricket Club seven years ago, Sharon Mitchell has had an enormous impact. She singlehandedly makes the teas, which are the envy of clubs from far and wide; from spare ribs to curries, cakes, scones and the full range of delicious sandwiches.
She has made the ground one of, if not the best looking ground in the country. A brave statement you might think, but not if you have visited. Every visitor to the ground remarks how beautiful it is. She grows thousands of flowers, from seed, in Bridgeholme's own greenhouse and has even built a large polytunnel when she ran out of room due to the volume of work required to stoke Bridgeholme's gardens around the ground. Last year, she entered the ground into Yorkshire in Bloom and received a Gold Award. Not an easy task, given the 2018 drought.
She is also the Club Secretary, working hard to keep the club up to date on all official issues. She pushed to get two Bridgeholme youngsters onto Yorkshire Pathways and regularly drove them to the practice sessions in Leeds herself!
Without doubt, she is the heartbeat of the club at Bridgeholme. She has made a real difference to the cricketing experience of all who visit their little ground.
Cricket at Bridgeholme certainly wouldn't be what it is without Sharon. Congratulations to her on her award and do make sure you pop in to see the flowers if ever you're in the neighbourhood!
