Chance to Shine is a national charity that aims to give all children the opportunity to play, learn and develop through cricket.
The scheme is financed from the Cricket Foundation with each County Board making their own budget, detailing their programme and selecting clubs and schools with a focus on school participation, competition, migration from school to club and school engagement/sustainability.
The national objectives are based on outcomes achieved through local primary and secondary schools receiving quality coaching visits supporting junior cricketers to play competitive cricket.
- To strengthen cricket provision where cricket is played.
- To revitalise cricket where cricket is no longer played, or played only infrequently.
- To bring cricket provision to state schools where cricket can bring enormous benefit.
- To create high quality, sustainable cricket programmes over 10 years in a third of all State Schools.
- To create a strong base to cricket’s pyramid.
At the Yorkshire Cricket Board, Chance to Shine is lead by Gareth Davis. Each Cricket Development Manager is responsible for the overseeing and monitoring, training etc in their area:
Rob Johnson- East Yorkshire
Gareth Davis - South Yorkshire
Richard Wilkinson - North Yorkshire
Steve Archer - West Yorkshire
Much of the work will be supported by the YCB's Community Cricket Officers working on the scheme. Full contact details for YCB staff can be found HERE
