Woodlands have become the first side to win the Yorkshire Premier League Play-Off final in successive season after recording a comfortable six-wicket victory over Sheffield Collegiate at New Farnley.
The Yorkshire Cricket Southern Premier League champions, appearing in their first final, were left to rue their decision to bat first under leaden skies as they were bowled out for just 76.
It was the lowest ever score by a side in a final and presented Woodlands with a golden opportunity to retain the White Rose Trophy.
After Elliot Richardson claimed the first wicket by having the former Farsley batter Jack Timby caught behind by Greg Finn for nine, it was his new ball partner Muhammad Bilal who ripped the heart out of the Collegiate batting.
After trapping George Bartlett lbw for seven, he clean bowled all rounder Shaaiq Choudhry for one and then had Collegiate captain Josh Varley caught without scoring as his side plunged to 25-4.
Sam Meadows (15) and Sam Hunt (21) offered hope of a revival before both became victims of Tom Clee. Meadows was smartly stumped by Finn for 15 before Hunt was trapped lbw to make it 64-6.
Henry Eldred (9) and Jamie Carrington (0) were both bowled by skipper Brad Schmulian before Bilal returned to claim his fourth wicket when he bowled Louie Owens for two.
Leg spinner Schmulian claimed the final wicket when Robert Shaw lofted a catch to Liam Collins.
All the Woodlands bowlers performed well although they were aided by some careless batting.
Bilal (4-38) was the pick of the attack while Schmulian (3-10), Clee (2-10) and Elliot Richardson 1-17 in nine overs all played their parts well.
Woodlands again promoted the big-hitting Bilal to opener and soon made his intentions clear by striking a six and four fours.
Sam Frankland never got settled and was caught and bowled by Eldred for one. A score of 24-1 became 24-2 one ball later when Bilal miscued and was caught by Eldred from the bowling of Rob Shaw.
The two quick wickets gave Collegiate a glimmer of hope and the two opening bowlers struck further blows when Schmulian was caught by Carrington off the bowling of Eldred and Clee was lbw to Shaw for one.
At 53-4 Woodlands were wobbling but left hander Tim Jackson remained resolute and found a solid partner in Kieran Collins. Together they steered their side to victory for the loss of no further wickets. Fittingly it was Jackson who struck the boundary which secured victory.
Eldred (2-38) and Shaw (2-35) were the successful bowlers for Collegiate, but they had too few runs to defence after a poor batting display was ruthlessly exploited by the efficient Woodlands attack.
Bilal was named Player of the Match for his 4-38 and 23 runs.
