Headingley was host to the first women's softball final's day.
The Yorkshire Cricket Board was proud to host its annual county softball finals day at Headingley Cricket Ground for the first time. 8 teams from across the county qualified to take part in the event, a once in a lifetime chance to play at the home of Yorkshire Cricket.
An unbelievable day was had by all with over 80 women and girls playing on the day and around 200 supporters cheering from the stands. Women and Girls cricket continues to grow across the county and the high-profile nature of this event shows another step in the right direction for the female game.
One of the finalists tweeted “If you’d have asked me a year ago if I’d be playing cricket I’d have laughed and if you’d have said I’d have been playing in the finals at Headingley on Sunday I’d have laughed even harder but here we are !! The best thing I ever did was helping to get the Sutton Ladies team up and running and taking the role of captain has been a pleasure. I’ve met some amazing women who I now call friends. What a year it’s been!”
We are delighted with the feedback that we have received from players and staff and look forward to hosting more memorable days at Headingley with increased participation in women and girls competitions across the region.
