Yorkshire Cricket Board & Last Man Stands
The YCB is working with the ECB to develop new initiatives in recreational cricket. Our main focus is to retain adults in the game as well as finding new participants and bringing back lapsed players. Last Man Stands is a great initiative to help us increase adult participation in Yorkshire.
What’s in it for clubs?
• Increase participation resulting in new club players
• Bringing lapsed players back into the game and in turn to clubs
• Proven player retention (see example)
• Increase opportunity for all players in additional to Saturday cricket
• LOW COST to play the games
• Engage with club members and attract new ones
• Further use of club facilities to increase revenue
• A wider form of recreational cricket offered at your club
• FUNDRAISING and sponsorship opportunities
• Linking with the local community and local businesses
• Opportunity for a 100% funded new or refurbished non turf pitch
Clubs should check with their local Last Man Stands League Manager to ensure their ground meets the ECB criteria for a funded non turf pitch. Even if a club does not require a non turf pitch they can still get involved and host games at their club.
Last Man Stands is proving to be a positive addition to club cricket that is played outside of your regular weekend cricket.
Case Study:
“St Chad’s Broomfield CC in Leeds have benefited with the introduction of Last Man Stands. Not only have they attracted enough new local players to enter a team in the competition but they now have an additional Saturday team thanks to the influx of new players. They were eligible to apply and received funding for a new non turf pitch which is also used by their junior teams and local businesses who hire the ground which generates income along with additional refreshment sales and new sponsorship.”
Current players, lapsed players, work colleagues, parents, drinking buddies, student groups and many others are all getting together to form teams and play Last Man Stands.....
There are currently leagues in Leeds, Bradford, Calderdale, Kirklees, Wakefield, Barnsley, Sheffield, Rotherham, Doncaster and Hull with leagues in North Yorkshire coming soon.
