All cricket clubs have an obligation to appoint a Club Safeguarding Officer, irrespective as to whether or not they have a junior section at their club. These officers have a remit to provide advice on Safeguarding issues and to ensure that the club adheres to all aspects of Safeguarding. The Club Safeguarding Officer must complete three sets of training:
- Online ‘Safeguarding for Specialist Roles’
- A ‘top up’ online module – ‘Safeguarding for Committee Members and Club Safeguarding Officers’
- Face to face ‘Safe Hands' workshop which is run by the Yorkshire Cricket Board
These courses must be renewed every three years.
Safe Hands Workshops in Yorkshire are lead by Ray Knowles YCB County Safeguarding Officer and delivered by our fully qualified Safehands instructors. The workshops are run on evening at locations across the County, usually during the off-season, in response to levels of need identified by leagues. For example, two workshops per year will usually be held for the York & District Senior League in different locations to accommodate the geography and size of the league.
The booking system is a fully on-line process whereby the club attendee reserves their place on the course staged for clubs in their league. The system is the ECB Cvent booking system now being used for all ECB education programmes (Coach Ed, Officials, etc).
What do Leagues need to:
- Leagues need to identify their requirement for workshops to be run Jan – May. This is to agree dates & venues with Ray Knowles.
- Once agreed, these need to be publicised to clubs, including link(s) to how people should book online.
- This should not be circulated until confirmation has been received from the YCB that the workshop details have been set-up and made live on Cvent system.
- To liaise with the YCB contact on uptake for the course and continue to promote to clubs as required (please direct enquiries to d.staniland@yorkshirecb.com
- To resolve any outstanding financial issues (ie hire of venue, any outstanding payments)
What YCB will do:
- Agree dates and venues with leagues for the workshops being run.
- When confirmed with leagues, set-up on-line event and booking link.
- Share the link with leagues to promote and advertise
- Include full details on YCB website for all courses set-up and who can register (available HERE)
- Monitor take-up of places and liaise with leagues and Ray Knowles on uptake for all courses
- Resolve any outstanding financial issues through liaison with leagues, Ray Knowles, etc after each workshop.
