Young Scorer of the Year.
Over the last five years, Abbie Ellis has scored for all the teams at Denby Dale Cricket Club and voluntarily scored school matches. Whilst scoring, she has not only trained club volunteers, but has also given instruction to the opposition regarding computerised scoring.
Abbie has been instrumental to the delivery of in-house scorer training. Her enthusiasm has encouraged both her peers and adults alike to take up the challenge and become scorers. After attending a paper scorer’s course for beginners, she embarked on mastering the computerised system. Over the years, she has built up her confidence and now utilises the whole spectrum of fields: indeed, the Drakes Huddersfield Cricket League used her wagon wheel in a recent weekly match report. Her mastery of the system increases the enjoyment and enthusiasm of players at Denby Dale. When most of the clubs U13s were on a school trip to France, they could follow the match in real time thanks to Abbie, offering their support to the players through social media.
Similarly, when family are unable to attend matches, then through Abbie’s influence and digital technology, they are still able to share the excitement of the game. This has been a great achievement by one so young and has greatly benefited the whole club.
Well done to Abbie for all her hard work and her well deserved award.
