Francesca Anoble Memorial Award for Young Leader (Joint).
Youngster Kamil Price says volunteering with the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation has helped him greatly, after what he describes as a ‘difficult’ childhood.
Kamil grew up in the care of social services and began his volunteering journey with CATCH in Harehills roughly three years ago. He then joined the CATCH Wicketz Hub as a participant in April of last year, where he is now a weekly volunteer cricket coach.
Having enjoyed his involvement to date, Kamil was part of the first cohort of the Sir Stanley Matthews programme. He has given over 50 hours volunteering as a cricket coach support worker; including participating in personal development workshops and regular one-to-one mentoring.
The striking part of Kamil’s journey is his willingness to go out of his comfort zone from the start. This was his first ever sports coaching opportunity; and he’d never played cricket before.
Kamil has practiced his ability to reflect on his coaching/leadership and how it influences the participants and fellow volunteers around him. This level of maturity has spread into his career plan; connecting his current learning to his future aspirations as a Youth Worker.
Well done to Kamil for all his good work and a very well deserved award.
