Heartbeat of the Club.
Les has been the heartbeat of Haworth Road Methodist Cricket Club for 50 years as player and official and has kept the link with the Methodist Church alive. Les was first or second team captain for years. As secretary for over 30 years, he has been the driving force in creating a successful club, negotiating change and recoveries from disaster. The collapse of the pavilion meant a replacement wooden pavilion had to be sourced from a club in North Yorkshire. He combatted major floods, most recently in 2016, by securing grants and donations and even cajoling Bradford Council to rebuild a wall. He arranged companies and volunteers to clear the remaining detritus and restore the playing surface.
The club is always ready for the first game of the season. He has ensured full teams for each fixture; firstly in the Bradford Mutual Sunday School League, the Central Yorkshire League and now the Craven and District Cricket League. He spends a significant amount of time throughout the year seeking out new players and has successfully integrated quality cricketers from Bradford's Asian community. The club is a beacon of harmonious community cohesion through sport.
And just too top it all off, Les even organises a trip to a test match venue for club members and invited local cricketers - providing funds, great fun and a good amount of local notoriety for Les!
Well done to Les on a very well deserved award after decades of amazing work!
