Lawrence Walker Award for Club Development.
In 2019, York CC hosted a four-day first class game, various Yorkshire Second XI games, two Yorkshire Diamonds matches and numerous practice days. The organisation of facilities and events for Yorkshire CCC are all dealt with by Secretary and Treasurer, Nick Kay.
Nick worked tirelessly to make the first-class game v Warwickshire at York CC a huge success. The ground, facilities and infrastructure was deemed a huge success, with the game going into the last hour of the last day (even if the result was wrong). Nick led meetings with County Club officials and York City Council and organisation of; traffic control, security, St Johns, crowd doctor, corporate guests, groundsmen, printing, publicity and staffing. A huge task.
Nick had a vision for York CC - to be the best they could possibly be. It is mainly through him, with supporting roles from the York Committee, that the outfield was re-laid two years ago. This was essential for the ground to be deemed fit for purpose. He has driven the club as Club Secretary for the past 15 years, overseeing the whole of the first-class game, a role which consumed a lot of his time. Nick is married with two young daughters who we're told ‘sometimes see their daddy’ as he continues to be at the heart of all that is done at York CC. Nick is also a partner in a estate agency with offices around York. Add on that he is also Club Treasurer at York CC and you can see the time and effort he has given to cricket for years and years.
Nick has made an outstanding contribution to Yorkshire Cricket and could not be more deserving of the Lawrence Walker Award for Club Development. Well done to him for all his achievements and an amazing year at York CC.
